The Honda Classic – March 15 – March 21, 2021
The Honda Classic is an annual PGA Tour tournament played each Spring at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Founded in 1972 as Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic, The Honda Classic brings together some of the world’s most celebrated golfers for a weekend full of exciting golf and charitable fund-raising.
The Honda Classic is played on The Champion course at the PGA National Resort & Spa that was originally designed by Tom and George Fazio. Considered one of the most challenging courses, The Champion features 3 demanding holes called The Bear Trap, named after Jack Nicklaus who redesigned the course in 1990 then again in 2002. The Bear Trap, which has been called “one of the toughest stretches in golf” by USA Today and Golf Digest, is comprised of holes 15 (par 3), 16 (par 4) and 17 (par 3) which all feature water and wind as an important factor in club selection.
Although The Honda Classic is a premier golfing tournament, its main goal is to raise charitable fundraising for the youth of the Palm Beach area. The Children’s Healthcare charity, through the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, raises money to support the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of childhood diseases and disorders. The Children’s Healthcare charity also supports many other non-profit programs that are primarily focused on pediatric health care and related services by providing grants from funds raised during The Honda Classic.
