Originally the site of the Yamato Colony, a Japanese pineapple farming community, the Boca Raton Airport has a very storied past that is still present throughout the Boca Raton community. Through street names like Yamato Road and the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, the Yamato Colony is honored and remembered.
The colony was abandoned after the 1908 crop was destroyed by disease and the Army Air Corps need for more practical training bases when the United States entered World War II. Several years after the war, control of the land was transferred from US government control to the town of Boca Raton.
Today, Boca Raton Airport is publicly owned and managed by the Boca Raton Airport Authority. There are 2 full-service Fixed-Based Operators(FBO) at the airport: Galaxy/Boca Aviation and Signature Flight Support Services. The Boca Raton Airport averages over 200 aircraft operations per day.
